Trees are our friends

Why in the midst of a significant heatwave would it be necessary to pollard trees? It was only with the intervention of residents that this was stopped. The ingredients: high-emissivity glass on a south facing façade and trees that provide natural external shading to provide some protection. Without shading the homes would be overheating – wish I had temperature readings!

Responses from council representatives include a shrug, “it’s social housing” i.e. so what, and, “We don’t have to consult residents, we can do what we want.”

These trees need pruning not pollarding.
