Meeting housing demand
The recently published House of Lords’ report “Meeting Housing Demand” highlights the dearth of SME housebuilders noting that if the substantial housing demand is to be met, they need to be supported.
For us the four most important requirements are;
- Access to land and opportunities that suit the needs and capacity of SMEs
- Access to funding
- Simplified planning consents to allow funding to be secured
- Skills support
We need Local Authorities and Homes England to set up the relevant pathways to purposefully work with SME housebuilders. Either by setting engagement conditions for larger sites or access to opportunity sites to realise more homes and address the shortfalls.
