Promoting Housing Affordability
The report by the Urban Land Institute “Promoting Housing Affordability” supports Mix Developments initiative to deliver affordable intermediate homes. We need public bodies to work with us to unlock the opportunities.
Getting onto the housing ladder is difficult enough for anybody. But, with a current average UK salary of around £28,000 (ONS), younger people cannot afford a home of their own. They tend to be a low priority for social housing and cannot access the housing market.
Housing delivery needs to be adjusted to create more of this middle ground, to allow younger people to own a home of their own and facilitate mobility.
We need to make sure that the homes are affordable to people based on their income profiles rather than the vagaries of the market.
